Testimonials

The Boys & Girls Club played a significant role in assisting me in moving forward and being successful. With the support and motivation of my foster parent, my teachers, and the staff at the Club, I have transformed into a new person who has the desire and ability to go to college and seek a career in social work.
Kim Hines, Whatcom County 2014 Youth of the Year
“I’ve journeyed through elementary, middle, and high school facing many obstacles. I’m near college graduation and I always credit the Boys & Girls Club for supporting me through my adolescence and as a young adult. I cannot picture where I would be in my life without the life lessons and experiences I’ve gained being a Club member.”
Vang Le, Whatcom County & Washington State 2010 Youth of the Year
“Everything you’ve seen or heard about me began with lessons I learned to live by at the Club.”
“Like many Club alumni, I can honestly say I don’t know where I’d be today without the Club. Thanks to Boys & Girls Clubs from the bottom of my heart, for all you have done for me, and for so many others.”
“I always go back to lessons learned at the Club. We discovered there was something higher than ourselves, and that giving back to others was what really mattered.”

**Program Spotlight: Keepin' it REAL: Boys & Girls Clubs at the Forefront of Marijuana Prevention** Our Boys & Girls Clubs in Washington are Keepin' it Real. In partnership with Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), we are excited to bring our Boys & Girls Clubs to the forefront of marijuana prevention in Washington State. The Keepin' it Real curriculum, ran by our trained staff, helps "teach youth how to live drug-free lives confidently, drawing on their personal strengths and the strengths of their families and communities". Targeted toward 7th and 8th graders the Keepin' it REAL curriculum has proven effective in reducing adolescent alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco use. The word REAL, being an acronym of four ways to refuse alcohol, tobacco and other drug offers -- Refuse, Explain, Avoid, and Leave. In 2016 we have ten participating Club service sites, located in the communities of Clarkston, Pasco, Prosser, Belfair, Lakewood, Tacoma, Granite Falls, Sedro-Wooley, SE Seattle, and Bellingham. Each site is implementing the program this spring with the goal to reach 207 at risk middle school youth. We understand the impact that our staff can play in the lives of our youth, especially those who need us the most, and are happy that to prepare our youth with the necessary tools. Keepin' it REAL encourages our youth to decisively refuse drug offers, help recognize risks and avoid drug-related situations, build strong decision-making, communication, and assertive refusal skills, and finally empower them to value their own perceptions and choice to live drug-free. ...
